Canada: Hinton Gets Low Down on Geothermal District Heating Project

GYPSD gets the skinny of Hinton’s geothermal venture (Edson Leader)

The Town of Hinton’s geothermal venture could mean that Grande Yellowhead Public School Division Schools gain a new heating source.

Hinton Mayor Rob Mackin spoke with the Grande Yellowhead board of trustees about the project.

He explained that the plan will be to use deep wells to take heat from the earth and use it to produce power as well as heat. He said geothermal energy is used seemingly around the world but not so much in Canada.

“It’s done everywhere except Canada, which is interesting,” Mackin said.
