Fukushima Hot Springs to Start Geothermal Power Project (NHK - Japan Broadcasting Corporation)

Hot springs operators in Tsuchiyu, a town about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Fukushima’s stricken nuclear station in Japan, announced on Friday a 250 KWe geothermal power generation project.

The hot spring resort known as Tsuchiyu Onsen, located in Fukushima City, will be the first Japanese national park to have a geothermal power plant constructed within its borders.

The managers hope to generate 2.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, or enough to supply about 500 households. They expect to make about 980,000 dollars a year by selling electricity starting in July 2015.
