USA, Nevada:

Geothermal Development In Northern Nevada (Desert Report)

Desert Report is a 24-page newsletter about the California and Nevada deserts. All policy, editing, reporting, and graphic design is the work of volunteers at the Sierra Club California/Nevada Desert Committee.

Nevada is the bulls-eye of geothermal resources in the United States. The region of high geothermal potential is home to a multitude of hot springs and other thermal features, and these are just the surface manifestations of an abundant geothermal resource that can be tapped at relatively shallow depths in the crust. Scientifically supportable estimates indicate that this resource could, in principle, provide baseload power of 100’s of gigawatts. This would exceed the current combined needs of the western states, but for several reasons it may never be fully tapped.
