Canada:

Geothermal Power: Why SaskPower is Interested (SaskPower)

Together with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), SaskPower is committed to a $2 million Front End Engineering Design (FEED) Study on the viability of geothermal as a resource for clean electricity generation in southeastern Saskatchewan (each party has committed approximately $1 M to the study).

The FEED study, carried out by DEEP Earth Energy Production Inc., is an early step in the process that will look at the economic and technical aspects of geothermal power generation, and will wrap up in December 2013.

Funding the study is part of our ongoing evaluation of all potential clean energy options to meet the province’s growing need for electricity Find out more about our challenge and what we are doing to power the province here.

Geothermal power generation is a new concept in Canada. It’s too early to say what the results of DEEP’s research will be, but geothermal has been used successfully for electricity generation in other parts of the world.
