Eden Project Geothermal Plant Takes a Step Forward (Cornish Guardian)

The Eden Project's geothermal 'hot rocks' scheme has taken a step forward, setting up a liaison group with the local community.

Talks are currently under way about providing capital support for Eden's deep geothermal energy plant as a result of a collaboration with the Penzance firm EGS Energy.

An Eden spokesman said EGS Energy is currently working with multinational infrastructure group Balfour Beatty to finalize the site preparation and design for the Eden plant.

As part of this work, ground investigations are planned in the next few weeks.

With a capacity of 4 MWe and the ability to generate around 95% of the time, it should produce enough electricity to supply Eden and the equivalent of around five thousand households, as well as heating for the biomes and potentially some district heating (depending on economics and logistics).
