Report Shows a 9.6% Increase in US Geothermal Electricity Generation in 2012

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)’s full 2012 electricity generation data is now available in the EIA’s Electric Power Monthly report. It shows how the geothermal industry has fared during the year.

The table below shows Net Generation from Geothermal by state, by Sector, Year-to-Date through December 2012 and 2011 (Thousand Megawatthours) and the percent increase year-on-year.


Overall there was a 1,475,000 Megawatthour increase in the production of geothermal electricity in the US in 2012, a 9.6% increase.

The state with the biggest increase was Idaho with a 30.5% increase year-on-year followed by Nevada with a 26.3% increase.
